Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering, reporting to the Division President, will be accountable for the overall engineering strategy and operations for the Ambulance Division, which consists of four business units and five core brands. 

 

Responsibilities include core application engineering, new product development, development of VAVE project pipeline, and cross-platform technology evaluation/integration.  This position will provide leadership, mentorship, and annual planning in partnership with each business unit engineering leaders and GMs. Additionally, he/she will work closely with corporate/division leaders in operational excellence, VAVE, purchasing, finance, marketing, aftermarket, and operations to achieve division performance goals. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and strategic engineering leadership and mentorship to business unit engineering leaders and their respective teams in a matrixed structure. 
  • Contribute to and collaborate with division leadership team as core member, driving long-term business goals of the division to increase profitability and market share.
  • Develop long-term product, platform, and technology roadmaps, working closely with marketing and purchasing teams.
  • Track and steer multiple divisional engineering projects and ensure on-time completion and performance targets are met.
  • Ensure division maintains and improves product certifications and compliance with best-in-class engineering practices and methods.
  • Support the business unit engineering leaders and business unit VP/GMs to develop and drive VAVE projects while optimizing project pipeline.
  • Drive continuous improvement of engineering systems and processes to increase data-sharing, efficiency and quality across the value stream.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering; Master’s degree in engineering and/or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of combined hands-on and leadership experience driving engineering, new product development/innovation, and/or value engineering projects in automotive industry. 
  • Experience working in public company environment and matrixed organization.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
