POSITION PURPOSE: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for establishing manufacturing methods, implementing new processes and improving current processes in the RV Manufacturing Facilities in Decatur, IN. This position involves the full range of work related to planning, devising, and adapting methods in pursuit of optimizing quality, productivity, safety.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates manufacturing processes to mark areas of concern that should be focused on.
  • Establishes process capability including the specification, selection and qualification of equipment and tooling to optimize product and material flow.
  • Develops and implements production layouts to optimize product and material flow.
  • Prepares required documentation including General Specifications, process instructions, routings/labor standards, etc. to meet project requirements.
  • Establishes equipment/process calibration controls where required.
  • Actively participates in the prototyping and pilot processes to spot trouble areas early and to make immediate Design Changes involving both prints and bills of material.
  • Coordinates the implementation of facility projects related to the manufacturing processes to make the product more manufacturable.
  • Develops and administers training plans to assist in future planning and development.
  • Trains associates in World Class manufacturing techniques to satisfy organization/associate development needs.
  • Maintains an on-going assessment of manufacturing capabilities and capacities to transfer that knowledge back into the product development process.
  • Utilizes Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing and other techniques to achieve product/process improvements with the overall goal of Company profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Documents results of process improvements, performs necessary calculations, and submits proposals for evaluation purposes to educate the development team regarding past problems or complications and to aggressively promote process and method improvements.
  • Recommends product design and material alternatives in order to achieve the optimal manufacturing process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Design layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve maximum safety and efficiency.
  • Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  •  Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
  • Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
  • Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Investigate or resolve operational problems, such as material use variances or bottlenecks.
  • Purchase equipment, materials, or parts.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
  • Manages plant torque strategy and adherence to the process
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.

HIRING PROFILE:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Work Experience:
  • Three or more years’ experience in related field
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing practices and standards
  • Other:
  • Must have exceptional problem solving and communication skills
  • Must be a well-organized, self-starter who is able to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills
  • Lean Principles experience
  • Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with CAD programs a plus
    • AutoCAD
    • SolidWorks
