SCOPE: This is a working lead maintenance technician.  Perform duties to monitor and implement maintenance’s work orders, maintain work flow and identify and resolve operating problems within maintenance department. Tasks and projects vary in scope and level of difficulty and only general methods are available for reference.


Essential Functions:

  • Work from schedules, maintenance work orders, manuals and instructions
  • Review maintenance work orders to determine requirements for parts, materials and labor. Contact responsible personnel to investigate unusual maintenance requirements.  Review requests for equipment maintenance throughout plant.  Establish and communicate maintenance requirements and priorities, make job assignments based on staff capability ad availability, monitor and track work flow availability of materials and equipment operation.  Respond to operating problems of any nature.  Consult with plant maintenance manager or engineering to define and implement resolutions to maintenance problems.  Initiate recommendations for alternative methods to improve efficiencies.  Establish and monitor preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Implement training and orientation programs for new and transferring employees and report on results.  Monitor the quality of work performed within area of responsibility.  Provide data to maintenance manager relating to individual performance of assigned employees.  Prepare any range of periodic or special status reports relating to departmental and personal work activities and accomplishments.  Document shift operations within assigned segment of the department and communicate pertinent data verbally and in writing at change of shift to ensure continuity of operations and understanding of current work status.
  • Install and/or repair any range of plant equipment, machine tools, hand power tools, mechanisms such as clutches, chucks, drill presses, feed systems and coolant pumps, cranes, lifts, fixtures, supports and devices.  Check operation, diagnose extent of repairs required, disassemble units, repair or rebuild units, replace, and repair or refit worn or broken parts. Arrange for the purchase of complex replacement parts.  Assemble, test and adjust units and ensure proper operation.
  • Perform any range of diagnostic and maintenance operations including any mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic installations, repairs and rebuilding processes as required to maintain work flow within assigned segment.  Operate shop vehicle to pick up parts, materials or supplies from local vendors or move materials or documentation between plants.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance routines on all plant equipment and facilities including machine tools, saws, shears, brakes, hand power tools, power lifts, overhead cranes, generators, air conditioning systems, air supplies, in keeping with defined requirements and schedules.
  • Review and maintain records of preventive maintenance performed and investigate unusual notations to determine unusual wear of parts and repair requirements. Respond to request from supervision of other plants to assist in the diagnosis and resolution of unusual or complex maintenance problems as required.  
  • Inspect service and repair electrical and electronic systems, controls, motors, relays, circuit breakers, circuits, alarms, computerized controls and systems to the board level.  Arrange for the acquisition of replacement boards and systems and install, configure and test operation.  Recommend the need for engaging outside contractors for complex repairs.  Replace or remount motors and related parts and systems. 
  • Perform basic machining, welding and fabrication operations as required to make guards, brackets, supports or similar apparatus.  Fit and align spindles, bearings, and ways and machine slides. Check pumps, lines and free moving parts for proper operation and clean as required.  Check and clean reservoirs, change oil, other fluids and filters.  Apply lubricants and grease fittings as required.  Document preventive maintenance performed and supplies used.
  • May coordinate and participate in the accumulation, identification, labeling, storage, removal and disposal of hazardous material used in or resulting from manufacturing process at assigned plant 

Technical advisor to the supervisor and assists with planning and accomplishing weekly/daily commitments.  Work with supervisors and personnel in other departments, as well as engineering, to identify and resolve manufacturing issues



Perform or assist with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain work flow or respond to production requirements.


Tools and Equipment Used:

Machine tools, welding, brazing and cutting equipment, meters, gauges and precision measuring devices, oil and grease guns, hand and hand power tools, power lift, and fork lift. Use shop truck, mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners and hand tools.

  • High school diploma or the GED equivalent preferred
  • Journey level proficiency in such trades as electrical systems, hydraulics, welding, plumbing, painting, carpentry, mathematics, drafting and basic computer applications
  • Must be able to troubleshoot PLC and CNC equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical control and power distribution of Alternation Current and Direct Current of low voltage according the National Electrical Code.
  • Prefer five years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Basic understanding of equipment operation and equipment maintenance requirements
  • Must be able to use common hand and power tools, shop equipment, meters, and test equipment for troubleshooting and repair of systems
  • Detail oriented and able to exercise good judgment in problem solving
  • Able to develop technical solutions to address problems while minimizing cost and impact on schedule
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.



  1. Lift/Push/Pull- Exerting up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  2. Climbing- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

  8. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment
