MIG Welders do various types of weld preparation, welding, and weld finishing operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:                              
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
Build truck bodies to meet build specifications                         
Build truck frames to meet build specifications                         
Use plasma cutter as needed to meet build specifications                    
Finish grinding application using manual and power tools                    
Evaluate the needs to complete the projects and build special projects as needed               
Use plasma cutter as needed                                   
Interpret mechanical drawings, including weld requirement symbology               
Perform process inspection to assure quality welds                         
Perform basic maintenance on welding equipment                         
Self-check work and inspect prior processes                         
Meet production goals                                   
Maintain a clean and safe work area                              
Initiate process improvements when able                              
Work in close proximity to customer, as needed                         
Operate any equipment or tools needed to perform the job                    
Assist other team members and departments as needed                    
Other duties as assigned                                   
High school diploma or equivalent experience                         
Ability to use basic hand and power tools                              
Ability to use MIG  welder and plasma cutter                         
Excellent MIG welding skills, as demonstrated by the weld test                    
Vocational training in MIG welding or equivalent experience, minimum one year experience          
Knowledge of wire and filler materials, applications for various steel alloys, and aluminum               
Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.)               
Effective use of conventional and precision measuring instruments                    
Proficient in assigned welding techniques                              
Ability to read and use a tape measure to precise measurements                    
Ability to work in a team environment                              
Ability to maintain attendance within company guidelines                    
Ability to retain and apply instructions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:                                   
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.  The associate frequently is required to talk or hear.  The associate is required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crawl over, under and around equipment.  The associate is required to frequently work from a ladder or at heights up to 11 feet off the ground.  May be exposed to vibration.

The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds frequently, move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:                                     
General production environment.  The noise level ranges from moderate to loud occasionally.  Environment may be warm or cool, depending on weather and other factors.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:                                
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.  The associate may be asked to assist in the training of new associates on specific duties.
