Position Summary
The Fabrication Assembler is responsible for preparing, deburring (“DAing”), and assembling fabricated components used in the production of fire trucks. This role supports the fabrication department by ensuring parts are properly prepared, safe to handle, and ready for installation or sub-assembly while maintaining quality, productivity, and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Deburr (“DA”) fabricated parts and materials by removing sharp edges and imperfections
- Prepare and drill rub rails and related components
- Prepare catwalks, steps, grab handles, and other fabricated assemblies
- Prepare ladder brackets, pike pole brackets, and attic ladder components
- Prepare hose bed floor dividers
- Prepare rear cab overlays
- Prepare storage assemblies
- Prepare SCBA brackets and related mounting components
- Read and interpret truck specification documents and work instructions
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment as required
- Inspect parts for quality and accuracy prior to assembly or installation
- Meet established production and quality goals
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety procedures and guidelines
- Assist with process improvement initiatives when opportunities are identified
- Work in close proximity to customers, as needed
- Assist other team members and departments as necessary
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly experience preferred
- Ability to safely use basic hand tools and power tools
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to read and understand truck specification documents and work instructions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after training period
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Positive attitude and willingness to embrace change
- Reliable attendance and punctuality in accordance with company guidelines
- Self-motivated with the ability to retain and apply instructions
- Ability to work overtime on short notice as needed
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods
- Ability to safely operate tools and equipment required for the position
Work Schedule
6am – 430pm Monday-Thursday. Hours vary based on business and department needs. All positions are subject to overtime as needed. Overtime may include extended work hours or additional scheduled workdays. Employees should consult their supervisor regarding overtime requirements within the department.
