Summary:
The Drafter is responsible for supporting Engineers and Designers by producing engineering documents that are used by production to manufacture custom fire apparatus. Piece part, assembly, and weldment drawings are created from a 3D model of the apparatus as well as frame rail layouts, BOM’s, and cut lists. Assistance with processing change orders, package printing/releasing, and other misc. support functions will be required. 3D modeling of some cab add-on components such as medical cabinets and front bumper hose wells is also required. Solid understanding of proper mechanical drafting techniques/practices and familiarity with engineering terminology is important. A strong mechanical aptitude, with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations, is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
- Generate piece part, assembly and weldment drawings from the 3D model created by Engineers/Designers
- Assist in processing change orders as needed
- Print and release engineering documentation to manufacturing
- 3D model cab add-on components
- Assist Engineers/Designers as needed with misc. design projects
- Supply necessary engineering information to production, aiding in the manufacture of Spartan ER products
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Associates Degree or equivalent two year college or technical school; or one year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CAD experience using 3D solid modeling CAD software as well as 2D drawings experience; experience with SolidWorks and AutoCad software required
Skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint)
Demonstrated proficiency in both oral and written communication
Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Demonstrated knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, and assembly practices
Detail oriented with strong problem solving skills
Self-motivated, needing little supervision
