IT Senior System Engineer is a hands-on role and works with a team of system administrators responsible for managing a diverse corporate computing environment.  This role is responsible for the design, configuration and management of Microsoft Windows servers, including configuration and management of Windows Domains, AD Infrastructure, Microsoft GPO’s, Microsoft Azure, VMWare and various 3rd party enterprise applications.  Other responsibilities include planning, monitoring, securing and evaluating the performance of server/storage systems and making recommendations for improvements/upgrades. The individual is responsible for troubleshooting IT system related problems, administer operating systems updates as well as install hardware and software for different departments. This role provides escalation support for resolution of unresolved level one and two service desk incidents and requests. This role is   involved in developing, designing, testing, and implementing systems and procedures to protect and continue information systems activities related to network servers in case of emergency disasters. This role is in our Brookfield, WI office with travel required (up to 20%) to data centers and plants to complete infrastructure related tasks/projects. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely up to two days per week, subject to manager approval and after successful completion of the initial onboarding and training period.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support infrastructure operations to closely align with primary department goals.
  2. Trains IT professionals both internal and external, such as support specialists, system engineers, IT analysts and technicians, to work as members of the IT department.
  3. Maintains relationships/works with vendors-consultants on technical support issues.
  4. Maintains and monitors inventory of available hardware devices and corresponding software assets to ensure strong capacity planning, license compliance and meets operational needs of our businesses.
  5. Configures and installs new servers, storage and network equipment in support of internal projects and user requests.
  6. Responsible for installation, configuration, administration security, performance tuning, analysis and problem resolution.
  7. Troubleshoots server and storage hardware, software and connectivity issues; provides problem management, ownership and IT escalation support.
  8. Provides end user technical support for non-standard software products required by the business or one of its departments.
  9. Provides change, configuration and release management for the production environment to maintain compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
  10. Tests operating systems, software and hardware in support of business needs to evaluate ease of use, appropriate functionality and integration into our environment.
  11. Documents application installation, backup, recovery, disaster recovery procedures to support applications running on Windows server environment. Safeguards assets by planning and implementing disaster recovery and back-up procedures and information security and control structures.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Hands-on experience working with Server, Windows operating system, Active Directory, DNS, File Services, Virtualization (VMWare and/or HyperV), Storage (DellEMC preferred), Cloud solutions (Azure and Office 365 preferred), Backups/Restore and Disaster Recovery environments (Veeam preferred).
  2. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  3. Project management skills

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is preferred
  • 5 years of experience in Windows server, Azure and Office 365
  • Microsoft Server or Azure related certifications is a plus.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to communicate telephonically and electronically with team members and customers.
  • Must be able to hear/understand/speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.
  • Must be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including the ability to travel by air/auto to remote sites.
  • Must be able to work in front of a personal computer for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift documents/work materials up to 50 pounds in weight.

 

Work Environment/Conditions:

  • Majority of the work is conducted in an office setup connecting on network to manage/administer the systems.
  • This position involves working in Data Centers, Computer Rooms, and Network Closets when IT hardware infrastructure needs physical installation or management.
  • Work may be needed in our manufacturing plants when managing IT technologies that are supporting our manufacturing operations.
