The role of the Senior Director – IT Operations is a hands-on role that manages and oversees the highly technical IT Infrastructure and Service Delivery team responsible for supporting our heterogeneous corporate computing environment. This role is responsible for the design, configuration, and management of Enterprise IT infrastructure like Datacenters, Network, Storage, SAN, virtualization, and cloud technologies. This role manages a highly technical professional team supporting Unix, Linux, and Windows servers, including configuration and management of Windows Domains, AD Infrastructure, Microsoft GPO’s, Microsoft Azure, VMWare, backups, and various 3rd party enterprise applications.. Other responsibilities include planning, monitoring, securing, and evaluating the performance of enterprise IT infrastructure including network/server/storage systems and making recommendations for improvements/upgrades to meet the business needs.. In addition, this role will provide escalation support for unresolved level 3 IT support issues and provide technical consultation to the team. Other responsibilities include overseeing the IT Service Delivery organization, directly managing a team of service delivery technical professionals including setting goals, mentoring, and providing feedback through formal performance reviews.. . This role requires around 25-30% travel across US to support our businesses.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hires and trains highly technical IT professionals responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining heterogenous computing environment including but not limited to endpoints, datacenters, firewalls, LAN/WAN, servers, storage, wireless, PBX, backup infrastructure, and a formal disaster recovery infrastructure.
  • Set up industry standard ITIL based technology support function primarily focused on meeting business needs, improved SLAs, and end user satisfaction. 
  • Create, communicate, and maintain an on-call rotation schedule with the team members to provide off hours and weekend support for the business.
  • Create and manage IT department systems infrastructure budget, operations, and strategic investments to closely align with primary department goals.
  • Manage projects to create and/or maintain a stable IT infrastructure platform
  • Manage division level IT service delivery managers to foster collaboration in driving standardization and simplification of IT end user computing solutions and IT service delivery processes.
  • Work closely with the key business stakeholders to understand their IT needs and follow up with formal project plans, designs, implementation plans and budgets to support the business.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory of available hardware devices and corresponding software assets to ensure strong capacity planning, license compliance and meeting operational needs of our businesses.
  • Create long-term technology roadmaps to determine when to update company server and storage systems and to comply with configuration management, change management and cybersecurity policies.
  • Design, implement and test a formal Disaster Recovery program and plan for all business-critical systems to ensure successful delivery of RPO and RTO objectives to minimize business impact.
  • Design, architect and, implement new servers, storage, SAN, backups, and network equipment in support of internal projects and user requests.
  • Document IT operational processes, policies and procedures suggesting revisions or additions as appropriate.  Provide change, configuration, and release management for the production environment to maintain compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
  • Actively contribute and implement formal processes to create, maintain and enhance IT knowledge articles in our ITSM platform to help drive efficiencies in solving frequent IT problems faced by our end users.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory of available endpoint hardware devices and corresponding software assets to ensure strong capacity planning, license compliance and meeting operational needs of our businesses.
  • Document IT operational processes, policies and procedures suggesting revisions or additions as appropriate. 
  • Test operating systems, software, and hardware in support of business needs to evaluate ease of use, appropriate functionality, and integration into our environment.
  • Provide enterprise-wide level technical consultation to IT infrastructure managers and project managers to support developing, designing, testing, and implementing systems and procedures to protect and continue information systems activities.
  • Maintain successful relationships/work with vendors-consultants on projects and technical support issues and manage and monitor projects with internal and external members.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience managing highly technical IT professional team supporting enterprise-wide IT infrastructure.
  • Management experience architecting, designing, and implementing technology roadmaps for large corporations to keep up with the current stable industry best practices.
  • Advanced hands-on experience working with Network, Servers, Storage, Operating systems (Windows and Linux), Active Directory, DNS, File Services, Virtualization, Cloud solutions, Backups and Disaster Recovery environments.
  • Solid IT project management skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner.
  • This position requires 25-30% travel.
  • Maintain a high-quality internal customer service metrics as it pertains to end user IT support.
  • Strategic, proactive, forward looking in managing our organization’s IT controls environment to meet current and any future government regulations.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of end-user computing, enterprise hardware, enterprise software, database, network, communications, and mobile technologies.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and leadership when working with internal clients, peers, senior management, and suppliers.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • The position must demonstrate the ability to:
    • Apply in-depth critical and analytic thinking skills to unique problems and projects to provide effective assessment and solution generation; applies the same skills with models or solutions that are not readily available.
    • Work with International consultants and/or team members across different time zones.
    • Work with International consultants and/or team members and manage their work and activities remotely from the U.S.
    • Lead the development of response options, and quickly dissemination technical plans/solutions for varied audiences; these solutions may include automated response systems.
    • Negotiate and administer contracts, follow business guidelines for purchasing and maintaining vendor relationships.

 

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 15+ years’ experience in IT of which at least 10+ years in progressive IT leadership role managing IT operations for large corporations.
  • Prior hands-on experience in managing Enterprise IT infrastructure design, architecture, strategy, disaster recovery, and project execution.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to communicate telephonically and electronically with team members and customers.
  • Must be able to hear/understand/speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.
  • Must be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including the ability to travel by air/auto to remote sites.
  • Must be able to work in front of a personal computer for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift documents/work materials up to 50 pounds in weight.

 

Work Environment/Conditions:

  • Majority of the work is conducted in an office setup connecting on network to manage/administer the systems.
  • This position involves working in Data Centers, Computer Rooms, and Network Closets when IT hardware infrastructure needs physical installation or management.
  • This position also involves working in our manufacturing plants when managing IT technologies that are supporting our manufacturing operations.
