The Paint / Body Worker (Body Shop) position is responsible for finishing cabs and parts to Spartan’s quality standards, prior to painting, for the Company’s emergency response cabs and bodies.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair defects
- Perform presanding, body filler, roll prime, sanding, and metal finishing, as needed
- Lead / perform lean events
- Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
- Wear air or form fitting respirators for extended amounts of time
- Work off ground-level, on ladders and lifts, as needed
- Read and follow detailed operator instructions, as required by a particular area
- Understand, and be able to articulate, the body shop and paint processes
- Self-check work and inspect prior processes
- Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
- Meet production goals
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Initiate process improvements
- Support 5S in work area
- Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
- Work in close proximity with customer, as needed
- Solve complex problems with minimal assistance
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent attendance
- Positive attitude
- Strong and consistent attention to detail
- Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
- Team oriented
- Basic computer skills are required
- No critical shortcomings on last performance review
- 3 years of body shop experience
- Strong knowledge of metail finishing
- Working knowledge of application of fillers, including polyester fillers, putties, and primers
- Demonstrate high quality body work
- Able to:
- Tolerate very high heat temperatures
- Be exposed to high dust & chemicals
- Work overtime on short notice
- Willing to:
- Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
- Develop a working knowledge of Spartan’s systems (example: AS/400)
- Able to work overtime on short notice
