The Paint / Body Worker (Body Shop) position is responsible for finishing cabs and parts to Spartan’s quality standards, prior to painting, for the Company’s emergency response cabs and bodies.

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repair defects
  • Perform presanding, body filler, roll prime, sanding, and metal finishing, as needed
  • Lead / perform lean events
  • Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
  • Wear air or form fitting respirators for extended amounts of time
  • Work off ground-level, on ladders and lifts, as needed
  • Read and follow detailed operator instructions, as required by a particular area  
  • Understand, and be able to articulate, the body shop and paint processes
  • Self-check work and inspect prior processes
  • Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
  • Meet production goals
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Initiate process improvements
  • Support 5S in work area
  • Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
  • Work in close proximity with customer, as needed
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

  • Team oriented
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • No critical shortcomings on last performance review
  • 3 years of body shop experience
  • Strong knowledge of metail finishing
  • Working knowledge of application of fillers, including polyester fillers, putties, and primers
  • Demonstrate high quality body work
  • Able to:
    • Tolerate very high heat temperatures
    • Be exposed to high dust & chemicals
    • Work overtime on short notice
  • Willing to:
    • Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
    • Develop a working knowledge of Spartan’s systems (example: AS/400)
  • Able to work overtime on short notice
