 Position Summary:

We are seeking a results-driven Manufacturing Engineer to lead and support engineering, process optimization, and maintenance initiatives across the facility. This multi-disciplinary role combines elements of manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, project management, and maintenance support, with a strong focus on Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement (CI), and overall operational excellence.

 

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment and has a proven ability to lead cross-functional improvement projects that enhance safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering

  • Design and optimize manufacturing processes, workstations, tools, and layouts to improve flow, reduce waste, and ensure ergonomics.
  • Develop and maintain standard work instructions, PFMEAs, control plans, and process documentation.
  • Lead time studies, takt time analysis, and line balancing efforts to drive throughput improvement.
  • Specify, procure, and validate new equipment or modifications to existing assets for improved safety, efficiency, and quality.

 

Lean & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead kaizen events, root cause analyses (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone), and problem-solving workshops.
  • Champion Lean tools such as 5S, SMED, Value Stream Mapping, and visual management.
  • Develop metrics and dashboards to monitor OEE, cycle time, scrap, and other KPIs.
  • Serve as a Lean mentor and coach across departments to foster a culture of CI.

 

Project Management

  • Lead cross-functional projects related to capacity expansion, new product introduction, and layout redesign.
  • Develop project charters, timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure projects meet objectives.

 

Maintenance & Reliability Management

  • Lead maintenance team to reduce downtime through equipment reliability analysis (RCM, FMEA).
  • Support TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) implementation and preventive maintenance planning through the development of an asset-based CMMS.
  • Assist in troubleshooting chronic equipment issues and driving permanent corrective actions.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a maintenance, manufacturing engineering or industrial engineering role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional projects in a production environment.

 

Technical & Professional Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles; Green Belt or Black Belt certification a plus.
  • Knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks), and data analysis tools (Excel, Minitab, Power BI preferred).
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • Strong understanding of maintenance and equipment reliability practices.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Hands-on, collaborative, and adaptable approach with strong initiative.
  • Comfortable working on the shop floor and interacting with hourly, skilled trades, and leadership personnel.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Mix of office and shop floor environment; exposure to noise, temperature changes, and moving equipment.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs. and walk/stand for extended periods during plant activities.
