Machinist III

Essential Job Functions:

1. Follow standard operating procedures as well as written and verbal orders and instructions in English.
2. Lift up to 75 lbs. and be in good physical condition. Standing, bending, and climbing as well as upper body and back strength required.
3. Follow all company policies and procedures as stated in the company policy and safety manual including wearing safety glasses, ear protection, and steel toed shoes.
4. Able to work in a noisy environment.
5. Work overtime as needed.
6. Actively pursue cost reduction measures.
7. Perform all assigned tasks within specific time limits and company standards.
8. Must be able to read a tape measure.
9. Must comply with all safety regulations regarding the work area, the product and equipment. Recognize and report all safety discrepancies to your supervisor.
10. Possess thorough knowledge of all aspects of this field including products, options, and uses.
11. Reads and understands simple blue prints as well as perform mathematical functions.
12. Shows a willingness to work beyond assigned duties and follow an extensive departmental cross training program in saw operation, torch, plasma cutter, waterjet, shear/brake, and/or lathe for advancement.
13. Able to use and run all machines including the saw, torch, plasma cutter, waterjet, shear/brake, and/or lathe, and complete assigned tasks without rework or scrap.
14. Able to differentiate grades of steel as well as lengths and sizes of material each different structure requires. Learn to perform daily inspections of all materials to be cut for defects.
15. Makes good use of drop-off material while keeping work area safe and tidy.
16. Understand placement and positioning of material in machines to maintain proper angles and lengths.
17. Must keep material cut effectively ahead of production schedule to allow for impact of schedule changes.
18. Is a certified forklift operator, if needed.
19. Demonstrates leadership characteristics. Instructs and trains new employees.
20. Possess expensive experience from outside of the company or has mastered all of the required skills at the previous level in order to advance.
21. Ability and willingness to train new and existing employees.
22. Willingness to share department and company knowledge as needed.

Daily Functions:

1. Use hand tools, sanders, and grinders.
2. Unload trucks of incoming steel. Move aluminum or steel on and off racks manually or with crane.
3. Operate saw, torch, plasma cutter, waterjet, shear/brake, and/or lathe as well as cranes safely and properly.
4. Take steel orders from schedule and cut them correctly according to directions.
5. Deliver designated parts to appropriate areas. Keep parts bins full of cut parts. Use forklift, if needed.
6. Maintain and perform daily and weekly cleaning and service of machines.
7. Weight lifted: max. 150lbs, min. 50lbs; Weight pushed or pulled: max. 500lbs, min. 10lbs. Average size of aluminum or steel plate: 72” x 144”.

Potential Hazards:

1. Eye injuries: use eye protection at all times.
2. Trips, slips, & falls: ensure all air hoses and obstacles are kept clear of aisles.
3. Heavy lifting: ask co-worker for help or use a crane or forklift operator when lifting objects over 50 lbs. Only properly trained and licensed personnel should operate forklifts.
4. Sharp edges: stainless steel is especially sharp. Wear protective gloves and be very cautious.
5. Falling steel: do not load more weight on crane than its designated weight limit. Wear steel toed shoes.
