Saw Operator

Summary

The Saw Operator identifies the appropriate material and cuts metal materials to required specifications. This position is responsible for accurately selecting materials, operating saw equipment, ensuring product quality, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

• Read saw packages to determine materials and lengths to be cut.
• Identify materials from work instructions and select aluminum, stainless steel, or steel as specified.
• Operate vertical band saws to cut material to required specifications.
• Mark materials with truck number, tube length, and application information.
• Place completed materials in designated storage racks.
• Perform self-inspections and verify quality of prior processes.
• Meet established production goals and performance standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Identify and implement process improvement opportunities when possible.
• Work in close proximity to customers, as needed.
• Operate equipment and tools necessary to perform assigned duties.
• Assist other team members and departments as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to convert decimals to fractions.
• Ability to identify various types of metal materials.
• Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure to measurements as precise as 1/16 inch.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to maintain attendance in accordance with company guidelines.
• Ability to retain and apply work instructions.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work overtime with short notice when required.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and processes.
• Basic computer skills.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to read and understand truck specification documents.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to work safely and follow all safety guidelines.

• Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision after an initial training period.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the associate is regularly required to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Use hands to handle, touch, or operate objects, tools, and controls.
• Communicate verbally and hear effectively.
• Reach with hands and arms.
• Stoop, kneel, crawl, and maneuver around equipment.
• Work from ladders and at heights up to 11 feet above ground level.
• Work in environments where vibration may be present.

The associate must:

• Frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
• Frequently move up to 25 pounds.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, which is the maximum one-person lift allowance.
• Possess close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Schedule

Work hours depend on business and departmental needs. All positions are subject to overtime requirements as necessary. Overtime may be scheduled through additional workdays, extended shifts, or other scheduling adjustments based on operational requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The associate may be asked to assist with training new team members on specific job duties and processes.
