Supervise the daily activities of a specified group of department employees, ensuring that safety, quality, and production standards are met. Directly supervises Production Department consisting of team leads and direct labor employees. Work May work closely with sales, materials, quality, and engineering functions to meet company goals and objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily assignments of hourly production personnel to meet schedule commitments and cycle time requirements.
  • Selection of new employees and accountable for the successful onboarding and training of new hires
  • Responsible for departmental compliance, employee attendance records and enforcement of all company policies and procedures. Ensures consistent and effective employee relations. Recommends rewards/recognition as appropriate. Initiates necessary disciplinary actions as required.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback and coaching for assigned hourly production personnel.
  • Ongoing training and development of all departmental personnel. This includes defining the job function requirements, training plans for employees to develop the required skills, and maintaining the department qualification and training skill matrix.
  • Provides input and recommendations on staffing requirements. May assist in developing area budget goals for personnel, equipment, supplies, etc.
  • Prioritizes and manages the customer workflow within the department to ensure timely and efficient task completion.
  • Accountability for ensuring all quality, regulatory and safety/environmental requirements are met. Responsible to make sure appropriate actions are taken to meet all requirements, including stopping production if appropriate.
  • Reviews all work within the department to assure technical accuracy of the work meets customer requirements, engineering design expectations as documented in shop orders, engineering prints, bills of material, work instructions and quality documentation. Assures all workmanship standards are met.
  • Provides technical expertise for problem resolution. Liaisons with appropriate departments such as Materials, Engineering, Sales Administration, Product Management to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Ensure that equipment and tooling is well maintained (working closely with Maintenance). Participate in daily management meetings and walk-throughs. Document changes and processes accordingly using company methods and processes.
  • Prioritize workload and communicate tasks that need to be completed within set deadlines.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fundamental use of various pneumatic and power tools. Must be familiar with the safe operation of various tools – drill, screw gun, sander, jig saw, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with demonstrated team building and conflict resolution ability. Excellent employee and human relations skills.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels to include presenting information to individuals and small groups.
  • Advanced problem solving and project management skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Ability to work under pressure with limited or non-supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills: ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and use linear and other measuring devices.
  • Good understanding of OSHA and EPA standards and the ability to implement and direct environmental, health and safety policies and procedures
  • Detailed knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes
  • Fundamental use of various pneumatic and power tools. Must be familiar with the safe operation of various tools – drill, screw gun, sander, jig saw, etc.
  • Understanding and application of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies preferred

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate degree (4-year college degree preferred) or equivalent of a combination of education and experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Five or more years of experience in supervision or leading teams preferred.
  • Five or more years’ experience in vehicle production or custom manufacturing environment preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 40 pounds.

  • Office environment.
  • Required to wear PPE in designated areas.
