Scope:
Perform skilled surface preparation, bodywork, masking, painting, finishing, and paint correction operations involved in the manufacturing of large custom fire apparatus and specialty vehicles. Apply primers, base coats, clear coats, and specialty coatings while maintaining high quality standards, production efficiency, and safety requirements. Work from specifications, shop orders, blueprints, and production schedules within established manufacturing processes and accepted painting practice.

- Perform bodywork and surface repairs using fillers, glazing putties, and related materials to correct imperfections and ensure proper surface finish quality.
- Mix and prepare primers, sealers, basecoats, clear coats and related materials according to manufacturer specifications, technical data sheets and production requirements
- Apply primers, sealers, base coats, clear coats, and specialty coatings using gravity-fed HVLP spray equipment and approved paint application techniques.
- Wet sand, buff, polish, and perform paint defect correction to achieve high-quality final finishes.
- Operate and maintain paint booth systems, bake cycles, curing equipment, and associated paint shop tools and equipment.
- Inspect painted surfaces for runs, dirt, orange peel, dry spray, adhesion issues, and other finish defects; perform corrections as required under the direction from the lead team member or supervisor.
- Mask and protect non-painted surfaces and components prior to painting operations.
- Follow proper flash times, bake schedules, and coating sequences to ensure coating integrity and finish durability.
- Clean and maintain spray guns, sanding equipment, buffing equipment, and paint area workspaces in accordance with department standards.
- Read and interpret work instructions, paint specifications, shop orders, and production schedules.
- Record production activity and communicate quality or equipment concerns to supervision.
- Support departmental workflow and production demands by assisting with related paint shop operations as needed.

Preferred Skills:
- Experience priming & painting vehicles with some blending knowledge
- Experience with color sanding, buffing, and final finish polishing.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
- Ability to perform minor troubleshooting and adjustment of paint equipment.

Submit these implemented improvements utilizing our Minor Kaizen process.

Qualifications:
- Previous experience in automotive, industrial, heavy truck, collision repair, or custom vehicle painting preferred.
- Working knowledge of paint preparation, spray application techniques, blending, finishing, and paint correction processes.
- Experience with primers, base coat/clear coat systems, and related coating materials.
- Knowledge of body fillers, surface repair methods, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to identify and correct paint defects and surface imperfections.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship and finish quality.
- Ability to safely operate paint shop tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Basic math and measuring skills for material mixing and preparation.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain production standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift/Push/Pull- Exerting up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Climbing- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
- Stooping- Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Kneeling- Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching/Crawling/Reaching - Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Standing- Particularly for sustained periods of time.

- Ability to stand, bend, lift, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.

- Ability to work in paint booth and industrial manufacturing environments with exposure to noise, fumes, and varying temperatures.
- Must be physically capable of participating in companywide stretches twice daily.
The pay scale for newly hired employees in this position at this location in New York is <<19.00 - 26.50>>. This is based on meeting all of the requirements of the role.
