SCOPE: The EHS Specialist is responsible to assess current facilities and personnel and to convey the assessed information back to facility personnel and management in a concise manner to ensure current and future agency compliance and employee well-being. This is performed by maintaining current knowledge of present and/or proposed OSHA, EPA, DOT, & FDEP regulations; ensuring that all training requirements and record keeping requirements are being met; and by working closely with facility personnel to ensure all Environmental/Safety issues are addressed in a timely and cost effective manner

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with all OSHA mandated training requirements by providing training and retaining proper documentation
  • Date enter all training, injuries, etc. and all statistical data compilation and retain records
  • Conducts safety, health, and environmental audits and reviews
  • Assists in developing, implementing and updating environmental/safety/industrial hygiene programs
  • Track and maintain MSDS and chemical data to comply with agency expectations
  • Report and comply with all EPA, FDEP and local environmental regulations
  • Coordinate and meet the requirements for all DOT regulations regarding the shipping of waste streams
  • Assist supervisors and managers completing incident investigations
  • Process proper paperwork for PPE reimbursement
  • Conduct all hearing and respiratory fit tests as needed
  • Make recommendations for PPE Hazard Assessments and PPE Selection

OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain work flow or respond to production requirements
  • Attend training seminars for certification issuance of job related required Agency management certifications such as triennial DOT, annual RCRA Hazardous Waste Management, OSHA Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response Hazardous Materials Specialist  and other training as necessary. These will be required to be maintained to perform job related duties
  • Assist HR Department with special projects as needed
  • Some travel may be required
  • May be asked to perform within physical requirements including, but not limited to 40 lb. single person lift, kneeling, squatting, and standing for long periods of time. Ability to wear fall protection devices as neeed when working at heights above 4 feet.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Dosimeters
  • Force gauges and meters

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have AA/AS degree in industrial safety or hygiene, biology or chemistry.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene or environmental compliance programs and procedures preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDEP, NFPA, SARA III, ADA, Worker’s compensation and other related regulations a plus
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist, desired
  • Possession of OSHA 501 and/or 511 certification highly desired
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Environmental Health and Safety in a manufacturing environment.

PHYSICAL  REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift/Push/Pull- Exerting up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Climbing- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Stooping- Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling- Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching/Crawling/Reaching - Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.  Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing- Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment
  • The worker is required to wear a respirator and is therefore required to pass a pulmonary function test.
  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

 

The pay scale for newly hired employees in this position at this location in New York is  <<$58,500 – $90,000>>.  This is based on meeting all of the requirements of the role. The base pay offered for the role may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  We are proud to offer competitive benefits in addition to competitive pay.
