Apply sub-coatings and finish coatings to all metal components and finished product.  Fulfill all painting requirements to include from parts painting to completed vehicle paint, both in solid and metallic colors.  Mix all products according to specifications.  Check all painted materials for proper surface condition and proper paint preparation and repair as required. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions in English.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Function with a minimal amount of supervision or no supervision.
  • Set work priorities to meet production goals as scheduled per assigned department.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those in contact on a day-to-day basis.
  • Meet minimum standards of safety per assigned department.
  • Meet minimum standards of housekeeping per assigned department.
  • Be compliant with all the rules of conduct and attendance per the company handbook.
  • Must mix coatings with thinner and catalyst to correct mixture, using color mixture equipment.
  • Apply coatings with all types of spray equipment to meet coverage and gloss standards.  Be able to correct errors in application of all types of coatings.
  • Paint the parts and understand the acceptable quality of finish.
  • Follow all procedures for a quality, lasting paint surface.
  • Maintain spray equipment to meet operational standards, but not including repair of equipment.
  • Follow hazardous waste disposal program and fire prevention procedure.
  • Assist master painter on cleanup, staging parts, and delivering parts to different departments.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Ensure that hazardous waste that is handled is placed into the proper container(s).
  • Maintains all satellite and storage containers in a closed position unless adding or removing waste.
  • Familiar with Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.
  • Knows spill response procedures and evacuation routes.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Requirements (education, experience, travel, physical, work environment):

  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Ability to read English and Metric tape measures and use measuring devices.
  • Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.
  • Ability to recognize quality expected and be able to reproduce it.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. 
  • Must maintain a positive rating as described in the training/qualification evaluation record as a Painter.
  • Must be able to operate spray equipment in confined spaces
  • Must be able to operate hand control crane.
  • Must have full knowledge of quality requirements to produce acceptable finish paint.
  • Must be able to retain information taught about chemicals and related items and the proper usage of the same.
  • Must have general knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Be trained in Hazardous Materials Handling Operations with an annual refresher course.
  • Hazardous waste training shall be provided to employee within six months of the date the employee filled this position, and a review of this training provided every 12 months thereafter.  Employee shall be supervised until training is complete.  This training will consist of at least 30 minutes of classroom instruction and additional on the job training as needed.
  • Training will include familiarization with roles as outlined in Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.
  • Knowledge of organizational relationships and how to influence both internal organizations along with external groups.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate a situation, providing recommendations for executive action.
  • Ability to interact with various levels of personnel and functional areas.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Verbal and written communication skills and the ability to perform critical analysis.
  • GED or HS Diploma.
  • GED may be obtained within the first year of employment with acceptable previous job experience.
  • Training in hazardous waste removal.
  • Six (6) months automotive-quality paint experience preferred or prior acceptable training.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40#’s without assistance.
  • Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling, or bending positions.
  • Ability to work with arms above head.
  • Hand-Eye Coordination.
  • Ability to work from ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to safely use specified hand, air, power tools, and machinery.
  • Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.  Must be able to differentiate between color shades.
  • Required to handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
  • No allergic reactions to fiberglass, body filler, paint dust, or other paint related chemicals.
  • Must be able to breathe through a paint respirator more than ten (10) hours per day.
  • Ability to work in above 100-degree heat for excess of ten (10) hours per day.
  • Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.
