Job summary: 

Operates fabricating machines, such as cutoff saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines,  

 and punch machines that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures. 



Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template. 

Positions work piece against stops, manually or using hoist, or aligns layout marks with die or blade. 

Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine. 

Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction 

Measures work piece dimensions, using rule, template, or other measuring instruments to determine accuracy of machine operation. 

Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece, using file, hand grinder, or wire brush. 

Performs minor machine maintenance, such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces. 

May tend machines that fabricate and assemble sheet metal products. 

Performs other work as assigned.  


Performs all the work listed above and in addition: 

Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments, material requirements and tooling. 

Loads or enters commands to retrieve programmed instructions from database. 


Requirements (education, experience, travel, physical, work environment): 


High School diploma or equivalent  

Must be able to speak, read and understand English. 

Should have good communication skills 

Must be able to climb, twist, bend and stoop. 

Must have use of hands and be able to work over-head. 

Must be able to stand, squat, and grasp. 

Must be able to lift to 40 pounds. 

Required to stand for continuous periods of time.
