Under the direction of the Dir. of Operations, this position supervises plant Leads and employees in the manufacturing and assembly environment; plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures, recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions. This position oversees the 6S quality board activities, participate in Lean Mfg activities, supports and completes Safety activities including department area inspections, Near Miss reports, Accident and Investigation reports, Ergonomic review of equipment, processes and identification activities, and all other related production activities including communications to all other departments to ensure order information correctness, timely parts delivery, necessary technical information and other shop order and deviation information to allow for a smooth, continuous work flow through the department areas.  Regularly directs the assignments and work of department employees, interviewing open position candidates, recommendations for hiring and terminations, training of employees, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, changes in compensation/status, etc.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides effective leadership to new and existing employees with mentoring to ensure a well-trained, stable and productive workforce within the assigned production area(s). Conducts bi-weekly training status reports on all assigned new hire employees. Daily review of production schedule, work order books, parts and materials availability, technical information and any necessary shop orders and/or deviation information to ensure the departments ability to provide a high quality product, timely work flow and unit completion.
  • Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls, employee performance reviews and provides regular progress reports to the production supervisor / superintendent/manager.
  • Ensures effective employee relations. Provides employee coaching and development. Investigates and resolves employee issues through problem/conflict resolution and established policies and procedures.
  • Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all assigned areas. Works to continuously improve all areas, ensure a safe work environment, and conducts coaching and development activities to increase subordinates’ skill and capabilities.
  • Performs applicant interviews, ranks and recommends applicants for employment, recommends/conducts disciplinary actions when necessary. Recommends hiring and terminations, performance reviews and changes in compensation/status, etc. 
  • Provides cross-functional communication with other department supervisors and managers to insure inventory control, production schedules, and on-time delivery.
  • Direct, leads and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g. training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, Lean activities, etc.)
  • Performs accident and safety investigations.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  •  2 year B.A. Degree in a technical field and 3 to 5 years of Production and Process Improvement experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
