Primary Functions:

In this position, the team associate works as part of a team having responsibility for: modifications to the OEM Chassis, assembling parts and components of the company’s products. The associate will perform the essential functions and duties assigned by modifying unit chassis, assembling and installing materials, parts, components and operations per the Floor Plan, Work Order and other verbal and/or written instructions provided. This position may also cross-train and support other departments and processes as requested and assigned.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Reviews and compares Floor Plans, Work Order Books, Quality, Planning, Engineering drawings and other documentation to understand work to be performed, identification and reporting deficiencies to area Leads, Supervisors or Management on the product unit or process.
  2. Working independently or in a team, modifies the OEM Chassis, preassembles sub-jobs, assemblies and various materials, parts and components in a quality manner on the product unit to ensure timely assembly completion. Examples include: Verification of the VIN number to the Work Order number, making adjustments to the cab cut-outs, welds frame extensions, removes and replaces drive shafts, welds frame stretches, changes tires, rims, valve extensions, springs and air bags, installs exhaust systems, brake retarders and frame suspension systems as per the work order for each unit.
  3. Reviews (his/her) completed work for quality and completeness and signs the traveling work order book verifying the process steps are complete.
  4. Supports fellow associates within the home department as well as other departments to ensure smooth production flow and continuing product unit timely completion.
  5. Supports and serves on on-going Lean Manufacturing activities as requested or assigned.
  6. Must have acceptable Welding skills, capable of passing internal/external welding tests, and obtaining a welding certification within timeframe established by the Safety Director.



  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Welding Certificate from Accredited Vocational School



Ability to work in a “team atmosphere” or independently in a fast paced environment.

Must be able to read, interpret, understand and have the ability to perform the various operations as listed on Floor Plans, Work Order Books,  Quality and Engineering drawings/documents, Operating and Maintenance instructions, and parts and procedure manuals associated with each individual product unit.

Utilizing the appropriate Personal Protection Equipment, must be able to Safely operate all power tools, hand tools and specialty tools required in the assembly process.

Must have the ability to utilize Deductive Reasoning and Critical Thinking using logic and reasoning to identify potential problems, strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches for continuous product and cost improvement applications.



Equipment normally associated with Plant Production Activities:  Welding Equipment, Electric and Pneumatic Power Tools: Grinders, Buffers, Jig Saws, Band Saws, etc.;  Hand Tools: Wrenches, Screw Drivers, Drive Sockets, Tape Measures, etc. Includes any specialty tools and equipment ( Hoists, Overhead Crane, etc.) required by the production process.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to an indoor climate-controlled area. The noise level is usually moderate. In the plant, eye protection is mandatory, hearing protection and dust mask may be required in identified areas.
