Essential Job Functions:
- Follow standard operating procedures as well as written and verbal orders and instructions in English.
- Lift up to 75 lbs. and be in good physical condition. Standing, bending, climbing, crawling, and lying on hard surfaces as well as upper body and back strength required.
- Follow all company policies and procedures as stated in the company policy and safety manual including wearing safety glasses, safety toed footwear, hardhats, and other required PPE per area.
- Able to work in a noisy environment.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Actively pursue cost reduction measures.
- Perform all assigned tasks within specific time limits and company standards.
- Must be able to read a tape measure.
- Must comply with all safety regulations regarding the work area, the product and equipment. Recognize and report all safety discrepancies to your supervisor.
- Willing to develop a thorough knowledge of all aspects of this field including products, options, & uses.
- Ability to learn how to read and understand simple blue prints.
- Ability and willingness to be cross-trained in respective departments.
- Able to learn about parts and where they are used as well as the number required per assigned task.
- Communicate with department leaders when items run low in order to restock/reorder parts.
- Possess some prior experience from outside the company or has mastered all the required skills at the previous level in order to advance.
- Willingness to share department and company knowledge as needed.
- Ability to write down information for future reference.
- Ability to become forklift certified.
Daily Functions:
- Must be able to complete all daily functions of a Machine Operator I.
- Possess the ability to learn how to use and run all machines, especially the saw, torch, and/or plasma cutter, and complete assigned tasks without rework or scrap.
- Able to learn how to differentiate grades of steel as well as lengths and sizes of material each different structure requires. Learn to perform daily inspections of all materials to be cut for defects.
- Can learn to make good use of drop-off material while keeping work area safe and tidy.
- Able to learn to understand placement and positioning of material in machines to maintain proper angles and lengths.
- Must keep material cut effectively ahead of production schedule to allow for impact of schedule changes.
- Possess an increased level of tool skills such as calipers, dail, and indicators.
- Perform simple set up to do multiple part work.
- Check for first article inspections.
- Ability to ensure correct material is selected.
- Use hand tools, sanders, and grinders.
- Unload trucks of incoming steel. Move aluminum or steel on and off racks manually or with crane.
- Operate saw, torch, and plasma cutter as well as cranes, safely and properly.
- Take steel orders from schedule and cut them correctly according to directions.
- Deliver designated parts to appropriate areas. Keep parts bins full of cut parts. Use forklift, if needed.
- Maintain and perform daily and weekly cleaning and service of machines.
- Weight lifted: max. 150lbs, min. 50lbs; Weight pushed or pulled: max. 500lbs, min. 10lbs. Average size of aluminum or steel plate: 72” x 144”.
Potential Hazards:
- Eye injuries: use eye protection at all times.
- Trips, slips, & falls: ensure all air hoses and obstacles are kept clear of aisles.
- Heavy lifting: ask co-worker for help or use a crane or forklift operator when lifting objects over 50 lbs. Only properly trained and licensed personnel should operate forklifts.
- Sharp edges: stainless steel is especially sharp. Wear protective gloves and be very cautious.
- Falling steel: do not load more weight on crane than its designated weight limit. Wear steel toed shoes.
