Position Summary:

As a Painter I, you will be responsible for completing paint preparation and the painting of fire trucks. This includes sanding, buffing, taping, and applying primer coats, ensuring all surfaces meet company standards for quality and finish.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty satisfactorily:

  • Perform all duties of a Detailer as needed.

  • Grind welds and prepare surfaces for painting.

  • Sand vehicle surfaces to prepare for primer and paint.

  • Apply body filler and sand smooth.

  • Complete taping and masking for painting.

  • Apply primer coats using paint equipment.

  • Perform buffing and swirl mark removal.

  • Caulk exterior areas as part of paint prep.

  • Conduct wet sanding (preferred).

  • Maintain and clean all paint equipment.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on paint tools.

  • Self-inspect work and verify quality of prior processes.

  • Meet production goals and timelines.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Recommend and implement process improvements.

  • Collaborate with team members and assist other departments.

  • Operate all tools and equipment necessary to perform the job.

  • Work in close proximity to customers when required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.

  • Vocational training in bodywork/vehicle repair or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience with buffing and swirl mark removal.

  • Wet sanding experience (preferred).

  • Proficient in the use of basic hand and power tools.

  • Ability to read and understand truck specification documents.

  • Ability to read a tape measure with precision.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Ability to follow instructions and retain training.

  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude.

  • Able to work with minimal supervision after training.

  • Comfortable with working overtime on short notice.

  • Embraces change and adapts quickly.

  • Basic computer and math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

  • Detail-oriented and committed to quality.

  • Must understand and follow all safety guidelines.

  • Must be fluent in English (verbal and written communication).


Work Schedule:

Work hours are Monday - Thursday from 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Overtime may be scheduled with short notice and may include additional workdays or extended hours.
