The CNC Operator Lead supports production by providing daily direction, guidance, and technical support to CNC operators in the Body Fabrication, Machinery department. This role ensures operators are meeting production goals, following safety and quality standards, and that CNC equipment is running efficiently throughout the shift. The Lead also performs hands-on CNC work as needed to support workflow and maintain department performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership & Production Support
- Lead and coordinate the daily work of CNC operators to ensure production goals, cycle times, and quality standards are met.
- Monitor operator performance, provide coaching, and assist with troubleshooting to keep production running smoothly.
- Train new and existing CNC operators on proper machine operation, setups, safety requirements, and best practices.
- Communicate production needs, priorities, and issues with supervisors, Engineering, and other department leads.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment consistent with company 5S and safety standards.
CNC Operations
- Perform hands-on CNC machining when needed to support workflow or cover gaps.
- Operate CNC Routers, Plasma , Laser, and Press Brake machines.
- Assist operators with machine setups, loading programs, verifying tooling, and resolving machine errors or mechanical issues.
- Check materials and finished parts for accuracy to ensure quality requirements are met.
- Enter OEE and production data accurately as required.
Technical & Process Support
- Work with Engineering to coordinate machine programs, setups, and process improvements.
- Help maintain inventory of tooling and supplies to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Support TPM activities and perform basic adjustments to keep machines running properly.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and EPA guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of CNC machinery, setups, and machining processes.
- Prior experience operating CNC equipment (2+ years preferred).
- Ability to lead others, set priorities, and maintain a productive workflow.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, layouts, and measuring devices.
- Basic PC skills and ability to enter production data.
- Knowledge of safe operation of power tools and standard manufacturing equipment.
- Understanding of OSHA, EPA, and hazardous materials handling requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with diverse teams.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for 10-hour shifts.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in hot/cold, dusty, and noisy environments.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and vibration.

Overtime may be required based on business needs. This position may require mandatory overtime up to three (3) out of four (4) Fridays per month.
