Perform all paint prep and body work functions with little to no supervision in order to prepare the emergency vehicles for its final paint job. Prepare the emergency vehicle for paint by functions such as sanding, light body work, taping, and chemically washing items to achieve a quality painting surface. Perform heavier body work as required by production.  This would include the complete phases of repairing holes, major dent, PDR (paintless dent removal), aluminum repair, welding, and other general body work functions.  Buffing and polishing to obtain an acceptable quality of the finished product.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Function with a minimal amount of supervision or no supervision.
  • Meet minimum standards of safety per assigned department.
  • Meet minimum standards of 5S per assigned department.
  • Be compliant with all the rules of conduct and attendance per the company handbook.
  • Seal all seams and prepare all products properly.
  • Wipe down all areas to be painted with a degreaser and solvent.
  • Sand and scuff areas on emergency vehicles that may have prior paint defects.
  • Grind welds and fill with body filler.
  • Mask off edges and areas where paint is not required.
  • Fill any dents and gouges in metal.
  • Air file, mix sand, and apply body fillers to finished surface.
  • Apply caulking to proper areas.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and paint guns as required.
  • Fiberglass laminations for repair or production as required.
  • Ensure that hazardous waste that is handled is placed into the proper container(s).
  • Knows spill response procedures and evacuation routes.

 

 Requirements (education, experience, travel, physical, work environment):

 

  • Minimum of 10 years of auto body repair experience.
  • Ability to properly mix, apply, and finish body fillers (e.g., Bondo) for automotive and emergency vehicle body repair.
  • Experience with paintless dent repair (PDR).
  • Experience with aluminum repair.
  • Welding experience.
  • Ability to spray primers using an air paint system.
  • Proficiency in operating dual-action sanders, grinders, and miscellaneous hand tools.
  • I-CAR and/or ASE certifications preferred.
  • Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.
  • Ability to learn and properly mix primers and other paint products.
  • Ability to retain and apply information related to chemical usage and follow proper handling and safety procedures.
  • Training will include familiarization with roles and responsibilities outlined in the Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, and production orders in English.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk.  The employee is required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Other physical requirements include:

 

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40lbs without assistance.
  • Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling or bending positions.
  • Ability to work with arms above head.
  • Ability to work from ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to stand at a workstation for ten hours a day (minus specified breaks.)
  • Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.
  • Ability to safely use specified hand, air, power tools, and machinery.
  • Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Required to handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
  • Ability to work in 100-degree heat for excess of ten (10) hours per day.
  • Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

 

The noise level in the work environment is elevated.

Overtime may be required based on business needs. This position may require mandatory overtime up to three (3) out of four (4) Fridays per month.
