Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair plant equipment and machinery.  Perform various aspects of building maintenance, machinery maintenance and record keeping.  Maintain and repair equipment, building and ground, including vehicles, fabrication, general production tools, equipment and electrical power used to run that equipment. Work with hazardous materials and hazardous waste.  Perform and make adjustments necessary to maintain quality and production standards and operate machines in a safe manner.  Meet production standards within the allotted time standards with minimal supervision.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Perform routine and scheduled preventative maintenance on production and facility equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Working knowledge of all equipment associated with the production of emergency vehicle production, including, but not limited to: CNC Router, Edgebander, Omal Doweler, Paint Booths and associated ovens, press brake, shears, CNC punch press, CNC mill, CNC saws, table saws, band saws, horizontal/vertical sanders, vacuum form machine, and drill presses.
  • Troubleshoot and correct mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Run air and power hand tools in performing assigned repairs.
  • Recognize and resolve unsafe conditions when performing repairs on machinery. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and machine operation manuals.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions in English.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Function with a minimal amount of supervision or no supervision.
  • Set work priorities to meet production and maintenance departmental goals.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those in contact on a day to day basis.
  • Meet standards of safety and 5-S requirements.
  • Keep maintenance and tool records current; including safety checklists as assigned.
  • Follow all safety and environmental regulations and policies.
  • Estimate material needs for projects and repairs.
  • Fabricate or assemble production equipment as required.
  • Be compliant with all the rules of conduct and attendance per the company handbook.
  • Ensure that hazardous waste that is handled is placed into the proper container(s).
  • Maintains all satellite and storage containers in a closed position unless adding or removing waste.
  • Familiar with Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.
  • Knows and facilitates spill response procedures and evacuation routes.
  • Cleans up blood and other bodily fluid spills.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all of the safety and environmental requirements of all jobs in the facility. 
  • Must have general knowledge of Environmental Protection Division standards.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

 

Qualifications/Training:

 

  • Forklift and Scissor lift license required.
  • Blood-borne pathogen training.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short             correspondence and memos in English.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blue prints, assembly drawing, schematics and other written or verbal instructions presented in English.
  • Ability to utilize linear and other types of measuring devices effectively.
  • Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.
  • Ability to recognize quality expected and be able to reproduce it.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all of the safety and environmental requirements of all jobs in the facility. 
  • Must have general knowledge of air and hydraulic systems.
  • Must have general knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Be trained in the Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Handling Operations with a Certification training every 2 years.
  • Be trained in Code of Federal Regulations Title 40 Hazardous Materials Handling Operations with an annual Day training Certification refresher course.
  • Hazardous waste training shall be provided to employee within six months of the date the employee filled this position and a review of this training provided every 12 months thereafter.  Employee shall be supervised until training is complete.  This training will consist of at least 30 minutes of classroom instruction and additional on the job training as needed.

Performs jobs on ladders, scaffolds and scissor lifts.  The employee is required to sit and talk and hear.  Other physical requirements include:

 

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40#’s without assistance.
  • Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling or bending positions.
  • Ability to work with arms above head.
  • Ability to work in close quarters and off of ladders, scaffolding or lifts.
  • Capable of a large amount of walking.
  • Ability to safely use specified hand, air, power tools, and machinery including respirators.
  • Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Ability to work in 105-degree heat for excess of ten (10) hours per day.
  • Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.

Experience:

 

 

Maintenance Technician I

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance environment.

 

Maintenance Technician II

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance environment.

 

Maintenance Technician III

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance environment.
